China has the largest internet base in the world, social media is part of daily life and countless things are done via digital media. Statistics show that in China, nearly a billion people have internet access, 600 million people use multiple social media platforms spending an average of 25 hours each week. Knowing all this, obviously, part of your business strategy- better be to leverage social media platforms to grow your brand. WeChat, also known as ‘’weixin’’, is the number 1 digital media platform in China, it is a messaging app with over 900 million active users. WeChat is an all- in- one app that features text and voice messaging, video, e-commerce, mobile payments, and games.

‘‘Hongbao’’ literally translates to "Red Bag". This red bag is a timeless Chinese cultural tradition of a person giving another person money in a small red envelope, often symbolizing good fortune or prosperity. The Hongbao feature is a mega-hit during the Chinese new year holiday. Digital bags of money are sent between family and friends generating astronomical amounts of traffic to the platform.

WeChat is not only for individual users; there are also company pages and profiles that allow brands to create accounts and interact with users. Youku is similar to YouTube, it is the top video sharing platform, users can watch or download movies, TV shows and music for free. It has 520 million registered accounts.
